Who needs a good hunting rifle when you can use a nine iron? Everyone knows we poke fun at golfing on Adventuradio. Not that there is anything wrong with golfing – it’s just that this silly imported sport is about the limit of many people’s appetite for outdoor adventure. Well, maybe we were wrong. Executive Helicopters Bell Jet Ranger and Dan Sweazen takes the Red Bull Airforce jumpers Miles Daisher, Mike Swanson and Jeff Provenzano to 6500 feet over The 2010 Pittsburgh Regatta.

Miles and Mike are flying the “Squirrel Suit” which allows them a 2 to 1 glide at unbelievable speeds as they fly by the first jumper Jeff under canopy.

Moraine State Park Bike Trail

Moraine State Park has a nice paved bike trail about 7 miles in length around a portion of Lake Arthur. Located about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh, the trail is one-way but scenic and easy going, with modest elevation changes. It was 41 degrees and raining but the Helmet Camera from GoPro.comcaught some nice video.

We bump our spring training routine up a notch with running tips from our on-air guest, none other than two-time Olympic Gold medalist and California University of PA Head Track & Field Coach Roger Kingdom. Roger had a long and distinguished career on the track in the 110 meter high hurdles and also set a 110m high hurdles World Record of 12.92 seconds in Zürich in 1989.

Saturday started out one degree below zero but we were not deterred. One hour south of Pittsburgh off of Rt119 or Rt51 between Connelsville and Uniontown is the beautiful setting for this mini-adventure. Destination: Mt. Braddock. The woods near Mt. Braddock are steeped in this regions’ history. This was the site of General Edward Braddock’s encampment in 1755 en route to Ft. Duquesne. Although Braddock failed spectacularly to take Ft. Duquesne and lost his life in the attempt, we had a much better day. The quads came out and we set out to conquer where only snowmobiles should have gone. Look for our review of the Kawasaki Brute Force 750 and more video upcoming from the Can Am 650 Outlander. Thanks to fellow adventurers Ray, Art, Lexi, Raymond, Tommy and Anthony for a wild ride in Fayette County. The new helmet cam held up and took some awesome video!

Snowtubing makes me dizzy

A short jaunt East on the PA Turnpike to the Donegal exit landed us at Seven Springs Mountain Resort for a couple hours of snow tubing. Ten inches of fresh powder the previous night and an additional 4 inches while we tubed made for fabulous conditions! I highly recommend recruiting some fellow tubers to make a train. That helps pack the surface of the chute. Then, go for the now-famous Adventuradio mobtube whereby anything goes as long the lane is filled side-to-side with as many tubers as possible. Prepare to lose hats, scarfs, and gloves in the ensuing carnage.

Ron’s helpful hint: Spray down your tube with PAM to achieve ludicrous speed.
